Do giraffes ever get into fights?
Krissy, Age 7, Mesa AZ
Katie says:  "Yes, they do get into fights.  Only males fight.  They fight to find out who is stronger.  They shove each other with their necks (it's called "necking"), they ram their heads into each other, and they use their little stumpy horns like hammers.  They do not kill each other, but the little horns can really hurt and knock each other down.  The loser just walks away."

How long are a giraffe's legs?
Billy, Age 10, Fortuna CA
Katie says:  "They are about six feet long.  It might look like the back legs are shorter, but they aren't.  They are about the same length as the front ones.  They look shorter because of the way the giraffe's body slopes down in the back."
