Giraffe Habitat
& Geographic Distribution

Although giraffes can still be found in many different countries throughout sub-Saharan Africa, they have been driven to extinction in several countries due to hunting and habitat loss.  While the giraffe is not endangered, its numbers have also been drastically reduced in some areas due to epidemics of rinderpest.  Finding refuge in national parks, giraffes are now most numerous in East Africa and the northern parts of southern Africa. 

Habitat:

Mainly open woodlands and wooded savannas.  Giraffes in arid regions depend heavily on riparian forests.
