Owl-faced monkey - CERCOPITHECUS HAMLYNI

The word "Monkey": "Monkey" is of unknown derivation, but it may come from the old German story of "Reynard the Fox," in which the ape's son was named "Moneke."
Location: Eastern Zaire in central Africa.
Habitat: Arboreal. Dense forest up to an altitude of more than 1 5,000 feet.
Description: This average-sized monkey has a relatively short tail which is gray with a black tuft at the tip. The face resembles that of an owl, with two large eyes encircled by long lashes. Its face is black with reddish highlights, and there is a conspicuous white strip running from the forehead to the upper lip. The whole head is surrounded by a thick mass of dark green fur which completely covers the ears. The bare horny areas on the rear end are light blue in color. The length of its head and body is about two feet, and the same for the tail. It weighs about 17 pounds.
Behavior: Observations of this monkey in the wild are few. It stays permanently among the topmost branches of trees and feeds on a wide variety of plant matter. It lives in small groups and does not appear to make any sounds or noises to indicate ifs presence.
Reproduction: Nothing is known about its reproductive biology.
